It has been quite my hobby to look for more versions of how a series is told – like if it has manga, anime or movie adaptation. It may either be because of curiosity or (dis)contentment or simply for hoarding purposes. Sadly, the manhwa that I have read, as far as my resources are concern, don’t have any adaptation as of yet. Or do I have to advance my stalking to see? I honestly don’t know if webtoons aren’t just meant to be animated or what. But if that’s the case, somebody please tell me so I don’t have to wait forever. >_<
So here’s my list in no particular order of liking:
1. Cheese in the Trap (Ongoing)
Having returned to college after a year long break, Hong Sul, a hard-working over-achiever, inadvertently got on the wrong side of a suspiciously perfect senior named Yoo Jung. From then on, her life took a turn for the worse and Sul was almost certain it was all Yoo Jung’s doing. So why is he suddenly acting so friendly a year later?
At first it didn’t really appeal good to me as the first few chapters are too slow-paced. The main plot’s development took quite awhile to get to the point. However, I got to understand little by little what the author was trying to get across. Considering the many genres it has, there are too many subplots. Although at the later part they were all explained how they’re connected to each other. What I like about this manhwa is that I don’t get to predict the next happening. Perhaps it’s just my slow comprehension of the events but every time I try to guess what’s gonna happen next, I don’t always get it right. So my hunger for the next chapters is always at the hungriest level. Currently, it is on its 90th chapter which was released on Valentines Day. Actually, this manhwa already has its TV series in Korea of the same title. Until all the episodes are aired, I won’t be watching it yet. So given that it has its adaptation, why did I include this in my list? Come on! We all love the 2D world.
2. Untouchable (Ongoing)
Vampires! Blood-draining, cold-hearted hunters who entice humans in with their supreme beauty and feed on them with hidden cruelty – that’s the way they are still seen by society. However, the real species has long forsaken their dependence on blood. They’ve evolved into peaceful members of society who rely on human touch to sustain their energy. This is the story of a ditsy vampire longing to touch her love interest.
This. This is the one manhwa that I am always excited for reading every new chapter when it comes to the shoujo category. It’s just getting interesting as to how will Sia, the vampire, handle her feelings for her prey-turned-boyfriend love interest. The romance and the comedy and drama are easily observable, especially the romance part. Yup, I’m that girl. XD I have always loved fictional love stories, so you can’t really blame me if I am so into this forbidden vampire-human affair. Another factor that has attracted me to this webtoon is the illustration itself. It’s undeniably clean and
oh excuse my drooling the characters themselves! Bishounen level 999! The story is currently getting more interesting as Sia’s bestfriend, Bariu has confessed his long unrequited love for her. I wonder how will Sia manage two bishies falling head over heels for her. Who would not want these lovelies to be animated? I hope it’s not you. But what I do wish is for updates to be regularly released. Please? (ง’̀-‘́)ง(ง’̀-‘́)ง
3. Noblesse (Ongoing)
He awakens. For 820 years he has slumbered with no knowledge of mankind’s advancements and scientific achievements. The land which he once knew has become an unfamiliar place with new technologies, attitudes, and lifestyles. Cadis Etrama Di Raizel, Rai, while seeking to familiarize himself with this era, somehow locates a loyal servant of his, Frankenstein, who is currently the principal of a South Korean high school. Rai decides that this high school would be the perfect place to help him learn about the new world. He enrolls, and suddenly becomes the friend of Shinwoo, an immature teenager who is also a master martial artist. But this new world is no safer than the old, and the dignified, bewildered, technologically illiterate Rai finds himself caught up in adventures both hilarious and dangerous.
Action-packed. Full of witty comebacks. Dramatic. Funny. And a handful of male protagonists that I can make lots of husbandos from. And recently, an OVA has been released! Hopefully, it goes all the way to the many episodes. Because I have been waiting my whole life for one of my faves to be animated and this is it! I love how Frankenstein stays so loyal to Rai after all those long years of separation. I love how Rai, the highest of the nobles, enjoys learning a simple mundane life. I love how Takio, M21 and Tao pay so much respect and dedication to their new masters despite the fact that they’re their former enemies. I love how few clan leaders remain faithful to their lord even after being betrayed by the many others. I love how they all can still display a picture of a family even though they’re in the middle of a webbed disarray caused by greed of power and vengeance. I love just about everything in it.
4. Black Haze (Ongoing)
This follows the story of Rood Chrishi, a boy who carries a secret -he is actually the famous Black Magician, Blow, one of the youngest but strongest magicians in the world. In spite of this, lately, his organization’s master has only been sending him out on trivial missions, like running errands and orchestrating petty revenge schemes for clients. One day, Rood encounters the powerful Duchess Dayner Artian, who has come to request for his organization’s help. Her second son, Lidusis, has not been fitting in well at school, so she would like Rood to help him out. To do so, Rood must go undercover as a student at the famed school of magic, Helios, and find out just why everyone calls the son of an esteemed duke, a ‘Monster’. Of course, Rood soon comes to realize that there is a lot more going on at this exclusive school than meets the eye …
This series is just as amazing as the Noblesse. It speaks highly of friendship, duty, loyalty, trust, revenge, greed, power and love. How each of these attributes can create a wide-range chaos, strengthen newly-formed bonds and uncover dark secrets of the past are the major questions this manhwa shoots off. I find it really amusing answering each of these while skimming through the chapters. Aside from the main protagonist, Blow, there’s this one character I love so much – Shicmuon. As Wikia describes him, Shicmuon is usually a quiet individual but can become abrasive and ruthless when it comes to fighting, especially when it involves the Black Magician. He is quite popular with the ladies at Helios but he doesn’t seem to care much for this. When he was first introduced in Chapter 3, he was seen obsessing over something. His obsession is revealed to be the Black Magician and claims to have gone to every mission where he might have appeared. They’re like a couple in an everyday fight. XD Shicmuon appears almost everywhere and whenever he does, everybody else is fighting with one another. But what’s amusing about the fights between these two is that most of the time, it turns out stopping the greater battle. At the current chapter, Blow has joined the Tower, a council full of top magicians that has long been wanting to claim the power sleeping inside him. Now the truth is yet to unravel. But before it does, I hope it gets an anime first!
5. Abide In The Wind (Ongoing)
One day, 18-year-old craftsman apprentice Reana Forte encounters a wounded creature in the wilderness. When she approaches it, a disembodied voice tells her that this creature is Dragon Lord Kairak. He has been mortally wounded but can be saved using a little bit of her help. She agrees to heal him but in the process the dragon pearl – the source of a dragon’s power and life force – embeds itself in her body. Since the dragon cannot part with the dragon pearl the voice she heard, a spirit guide called Didan, requests that Reana let them live with her for a year. Until Kairak, who takes on the form of a beautiful boy, fully matures and can reclaim the dragon pearl.
One loophole of this series is that it presents a lot of characters. Another is having long narrations which obviously is a mood-killer. Although I understand that at some point these narrations are necessary. Currently, Reana is being held capture by one of the princes who wants to bring the King down. I am curious to know as to how will she manage to escape to find Kairak knowing that the dragon weakens when he’s apart from his dragon pearl. Or, will she even try to escape considering that the people she wants to see are being used to blackmail her. I don’t particularly like the flow of the story at the moment as there’s still much to happen. But I do want to see how it’d turn out if it’s ever animated.
6. ReLIFE (Ongoing)
The story follows Kaizaki Arata, a 27-year-old jobless man who fails at every job interview he had after quitting his last company which he only lasted at for three months. His life changes after meeting Yoake Ryou of the ReLife Research Institute, who offers him a drug that can change his appearance to 17-years-old again and to become a subject in a one-year experiment in which he begins his life as a high school student again.
This series can be depressing at times. When you read it you’d just suddenly imagine how productive or unproductive you may have been in all the years of your existence. Like how badly you want things to change but they just wouldn’t because you’ve become a neet due to some incidents. While it is true that this series depicts sadness, it also shows how one can still have hope and how he can use it to get back up and be humanly active once again. The story simply shows that “Second chances don’t come around all that often. I suggest you take a really close look at it” – quoting Dr. Hank Pym of Ant-Man. When you’re given a second chance, give it your all, as this may be your last chance to do things straight. But there’s more to learn yet from Kaizaki and his ReLife. But before anything else, an animation is really really needed! XD
The next two, I have yet to catch up with the updates but no doubt that I definitely want an anime for both!
7. The Gamer (Ongoing)
Han Jee-Han, a normal high school student, suddenly develops a special power where his entire world is shifted into a game-like setting. He can see the power levels of people, look at the stats of a seemingly normal item, get abilities, and even level up!
I am no gamer. But I do play quite a few in my phone – Minecraft PE, PBA Slam, Stick-man Basketball, Volleyball Champions 3D, sometimes CoC and I’m planning on getting Dungeon Hunter 4. These are free games from Google Play. I’m not one to invest on a game unless you recommend one that’s proven and tested worth the penny, then yes. And so I really find this series entertaining. I know people that are really into gaming and some of them integrate gaming into the 3D planet. Like my classmate in college, he could relate all our talks into games. We didn’t have a single discussion that did not include his gaming style, skills and abilities – which initially sounded very weird. But when I started to engage myself into light games, it changed from very weird to weird. Yes, he’s still weird. XD What I like about this one is that it describes things that a non-gamer can easily understand. I also like Jee-Han’s innocent but eager spirit when it comes to learning more of this unique ability he has. And guess what? He’s not the only one that acquired an ability ordinary human can’t possibly have. So it would totally be great to see all the scenes, especially the fighting scenes in an animation. P.S. Jee-Han wants to know his power’s nature as much as I do.
8. Girls Of The Wild’s (Ongoing)
Wild’s High has a 42-year history as a fighting specialized, girls only, private high school meant solely for the elite. It is also the place that Wild’s-League is held: the most popular event in the country and the only place in the world where teenage girls have brutal fights with their lives on the line. One year the school changed from a girls only school to a mixed gender school. The only male student, Song Jae Gu, has been granted a full 3-year scholarship regardless of grades. Being someone who had to spend every moment either working or taking care of his younger brother and sister, he accepted. But after meeting Queen, the bloody champion of Wild’s-League, drenching her in coffee, calling her a monster, and getting caught seeing her while she was taking a shower… his scholarship could prove fatal.
I am not really into regular harem because I don’t like the idea of all the girls flaunting around one guy (although I’m OK with all the guys flocking around a girl. Haha. Kidding), I have to give this one an exception. I have never liked seeing girls fight outrageously but seeing how these beautiful ladies become wild for the joy of sports, pride [and love], I have yet to give another exception. As I have previously implied, fight scenes are always beautiful when the pictures are moving. I don’t just want to settle into swiping (my phone’s screen) right and left or scrolling (my laptop’s screen) up and down. I want to sit back and watch how powerful women can be. I am not a feminist. Nope.
And that’s my list! I have yet to check out a few more webtoons. But I haven’t decided which to read first. Maybe I’ll jump to some Chinese manhua next. I heard of cool ones, I might go check them out as well. But that’s all for now. Jaa~
P.S. I got each of the summaries from MangaPark [Source link]
